Dash to the Altar

I am so blessed that my husband and my father are such outstanding men who have always loved me well, treated me with kindness and respect, and protected me from harm – whether physical or emotional. Unfortunately, in Texas, not all women are that fortunate. According to the Texas Council on Domestic Violence, an average of twelve women per month die in family violence-related incidences, over half of those being at the hands of their spouse.

That’s why I’m so excited to offer you an opportunity to join me in raising awareness for this tragic cause. Safe Haven of Tarrant County offers hope and refuge to women and children who are devastated by domestic violence. Their services range from providing education to offering transitional housing to fielding hotline calls.

Here’s where you come in. Next Saturday, March 31st, one of my best friends is sponsoring a 5K Charity Run benefiting Safe Haven. Seems like sort of a metaphoric act of solidarity, right? Many of the families Safe Haven assists are literally on the run.

Now for the extra fun part – you get to dress up! Remember that bridesmaid’s dress that’s hanging in the closet that was supposed to be practical so you could wear it again . . . as if you’d really wear it again? Pull it out. Been to a resale store and found a tacky old prom dress or funky tux from the 70s that you thought would be funny to wear to . . . something? Have an old veil? A t-shirt that say “I love my husband”? A top hat? Grab them and your running shoes because we are  . . . Dashing to the Altar.

That’s right. Dash to the Altar is a wedding-themed run (or walk), and you don’t even have to be a  prospective bride or groom to participate!

Join us for the run, complete with prizes for dressing up, food, free makeovers and massages, photobooth pictures, and lots of amazing door prizes. My friend Chris Keith will be sharing a bit of his story. I will be hosting a charity jail, where you can have your friends thrown into the slammer for a small donation, or get your mug shot taken. I have also donated a full family session package as one of the door prizes ($350 value).

So, I would love your help…
1) Sign up and come to the run. www.dashtothealtar.com
2) Like the Facebook page, and tell Rhonda I sent you on the wall.
3) Share about the event . . . Thru personal invite, email, Facebook, Twitter, get a team together, challenge your friends to friendly competition, etc.

Thanks, friends!

Strength

I am totally behind on posts about the super-fun sessions I’ve been doing, but I didn’t want that to keep me from playing along with my friends Kelly and Claire’s newest photo prompt at three from here and there. The word for the prompt was strength, and two thoughts immediately came to mind. I grabbed my camera and snapped away.

Metadata: f/5.6, 1/200, ISO 400 (I did have to lighten the exposure, so I probably should’ve been at 1/100 or so).
Post-process: Dodge and burn eyes, Light off the water (Colorshift/Jesh de Rox)

Metadata: f/5, 1/80, ISO 400
Post-process: Dodge and burn eyes, ProRetouch (Totally RAD actions), Light off the water (Colorshift/Jesh de Rox)

There’s still time if you want to play!

Outdoor Location {Fort Worth – Waterfall}

I scouted out a new location today, and I am super excited to start photographing here! Who would have thought there was such a scene right here in Fort Worth?

Family Session {Fort Worth – Stockyards}

I have known this family since before Mom and Dad were married, and I remember when their first daughter was born! And now they are all grown up into a lovely family of six. I enjoyed exploring the Stockyards with them and snapping some fun photos. Each family I photograph has such personality, and this one is no exception!

Photo Play – December {High Calling Focus}

I follow a blog called High Calling Focus, and each month we’re challenged with a Photo Play assignment. I was a little late to participate in this one, but I enjoyed doing it nonetheless.

*****************

So, I’m about a week late in posting this, but I did the latest Photo Play Assignment, and I did want to share!

I spied these workers as I was pumping gas one afternoon. I had known the type of shot I wanted, but hadn’t been able to find the right subject matter.

When I saw these guys, I knew this would work. What fascinated me is that there they stand, doing their jobs on a busy street corner (this is on the access road to a major highway), and yet the world around them zips by, almost oblivious to their existence. Unless of course they were blocking the road in any way, and then passersby would just be angry. No one appeared to give much thought to the dangerous conditions in which these men worked. Every day.

Newborn Session {Mansfield – Private Residence}

I really love doing newborn sessions. I consider it to be such a privilege to photograph them because – like weddings – you can never get back this moment in time: the moment  when they are this little. These new parents seem to have taken to their role so naturally.

I’ll admit, the lighting in this session was challenging to me, but parents and baby were so patient . . . and I loved some of the shots we ended up getting.

Loved the twinkling Christmas lights in the background with the baby sleeping so peacefully in her Daddy’s arms.

Can’t resist a picture of a dad and his new little one.

A classic pose, but one I still love. For me, it’s a beautiful reminder of my faith – being held by strong, protective hands, yet so tenderly.

Mom asked for a composite using the letters hung on the nursery wall. I’ll have to remember that for future sessions since I liked the way this one turned out! And who can resist a frilly pink tutu?

She looks like such a little lady in this picture. So delicate and sweet!

Family Session {Fort Worth – Private Residence}

Christmas was such a fun time to officially start my photography business because I got to take lots of Christmas pictures. This was a quick session just to get a Christmas card image, but we ended up getting quite a few more because the kids had such a good time posing. Plus we had some beautiful Texas winter weather that made being outside quite enjoyable, even in December.

We did the session during the day, so Dad was still at work. But that worked out okay, because really, how often do we moms get pictures of us and our kids?

Isn’t she a cutie?

For a little boy, he really got into posing for me!

I just loved this one!

My assistant . . . who is also great friends with their older daughter!

Family Session {Fort Worth – Private Residence}

It took a couple tries, but we were finally able to do this family session. And I’m so glad we could make it happen because what a beautiful family to photograph!

I love to watch this mom and dad team parent together. You can tell that they take the time to truly get to know each of their children individually, and they tailor their parenting to what is most effective for that child. And seriously, their kids are C.U.T.E.

Big sister was very focused on finding dandelions

LOVED this one of dad and daughter.

And seriously, how adorable can you get? I love how chill this little one is.

A quick shot of mom and dad.

Everyone had boots on, so it made for a super cute picture.
